
Port Blair, Aug 07: In a swift operation, Indian Coast Guard Chetak helicopter undertook medical evacuation of a tourist in critical state from Havelock Island. In afternoon hours on 07 Aug 17, three tourists from New Delhi whilst swimming near Radha Nagar Beach were washed away by waves. Two of them were safely rescued. However, the third tourist namely Mr. Neeraj s/o Vipin Chandra was rescued in critical condition and was admitted to Primary Health Centre , Havelock. Seeing the criticality of the patient , CMO advised to shift him to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.
At 1530 Hrs Coast Guard received request from Director (Tourism) for an early evacuation of critical patient to Port Blair. Immediately, Coast Guard came into action and configured its Chetak helicopter into ambulance role and took off for Havelock. The Indian Coast Guard helicopter alongwith patient landed back at Port Blair 1647 Hrs and the patient was immediately taken to GB Pant Hospital. As per the reports patient is in stable condition.
