Port Blair, June 21: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industries has requested the Chairperson of PBMC to requests for stoppage of water stagnation at Mohanpura, SBI, DAG Colony and Light House Cinema areas
In letter Mr. G Bhasker, the President of ACCI has said that the south west monsoon started in these islands since last one month and incessant rain has been recorded in Port Blair and other parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The roads in Port Blair city particularly Mohanpura, Light House Cinema and DAG Colony areas were inundated and flooded with water and to a knee deep level in some low lying areas of Port Blair.
“It has been observed that the water stagnation is simply neglected by the authorities. But the problems associated with it in terms of traffic congestion, break down of vehicles and the worsening of the road conditions immediately after rain can estimate to run in lakhs even in a single day. The situation worsen year after year in Port Blair town particularly in Mohanpura, Light House Cinema, road leading from Hindi Sahitya kala Parishad to Kendriya Vidyalaya and other low lying area where water stagnation .’Stains notoriety in combination of frequent road digging for cables, pipe laying and other:. Most of the main roads and also few interior roads lying from back side of the Hanurnan Temple to Labour Commissioner, road leading from Hindi Sahitya Kala parishad to DAG Colony/ Kendriya Vidyalaya in Port Blair city has not been repaired despite persistent requests from the Chamber. These roads were further worsened in this incessant rain and now it becomes difficult for everyone to travel through it,” he said in his letter.
He added that the drains around the transport bus terminus, Ratnam market and Aberdeen Bazar are not being cleaned by the concerned authorities regularly .which are filled with ugly materials like decomposed vegetables, unused card board boxes, plastic carry bags, empty gunny bags, empty mineral water, coco cola and Miranda bottles and slushy mud due to which during heavy rain the water flowing from various sides of the town are prevented and water stagnation occurred at Mohanpura market, Bus Terminus and SBI areas which paralysis the normal life of the people during rain.
“We shall be highly grateful if you could kindly look into the matter personally and immediate action is taken to prevent the water stagnation at Mohanpura, SBI Light House Cinema, and DAG colony areas in the town the action of which will bring down accidents and also protect the places to have easy access to the general public and also movement of vehicles without problem,” he mentioned.
