Port Blair, July 21: After a long waiting period of nearly one month, the Ship MV Swarajdweep sailed for Chennai without passengers this evening at 08:00 pm, for repair at Chennai.
A month ago the aforesaid ship developed some technical snags in the engine following which since then the ship was kept anchored.
But the decision of repairing the ship at Chennai has triggered a lot of Controversies and many people now question that why the ship was not repaired in these islands itself and why it took more than a month for the DSS to take this decision when already the Shipping Services is going through shortage off inter island as well as mainland bound vessels?
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the In-Charge, Aam Aadmi Party, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr Sanjay Meshack said that when the DSS had to take the ship for repair in Chennai then why they have taken more than one month to do so.
Mr Sanjay further said that one month is a very long time, why didn’t the DSS, repaired the ship here in Port Blair by transporting the materials required for the repair from mainland.
“Taking such a decision without the concern of the general public, without providing the general public with any alternative, clearly indicates manipulation,” Mr Sanjay lastly said.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone, Social Worker, Mr Mohammed Raffique said that the reason behind such technical snag is pure negligence of authorities. “After the ship comes from dry-dock no one from DSS checks whether the work done in dry-dock was up to the mark or not,” he added.
