
Port Blair, July 14: Top seed International Master P Shyaamnikhil of Tamil Nadu shared the lead with 2.0 points after the second round of the 26th National Youth Under 25 Chess Championship 2017 at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair here today.
It was smooth sailing for the seeds, as Shyaam overcame AFM Choubey Sourabh (ELO 1800) of Madhya Pradesh. Sharing the lead with a 2/2 score, along with the top seed were FIDE Master Mitrabha Guha (West Bengal) and FIDE Master Ankit Gajwa (Madhya Pradesh) among a total of 27 players.
Earlier today, the second round was inaugurated by Shri Francis Xavier, Principal, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya, Port Blair. Shri Francis made the symbolic first move in the top board, signifying the start of the round.
This Swiss event is scheduled to be played for nine rounds and offers a total prize money of Rs 2,77,000 (Rupees Two lakhs seventy seven thousand only).
