Diglipur, Jun 09: The Power supply by the Electricity Department has marginally improved at Diglipur Sub Division following Monsoon rains.
Earlier in May due to shortage of power frequent power cuts were imposed in North Andaman region.
Because of heavy load shedding in two different occasions public also staged protest infront of Sitanagar Power Station.
Earlier, on crisis, power needed to import from Rangat Power House to Diglipur due to low water level at Kalpong (NHPC dam), even though Rangat Power House was already in heavy pressure to supply power upto Baratang.
Now due to monsoon the water level in Kalpong Dam has increased to 197.20EL, which is sufficient to supply whole Diglipur, from Ramnagar to Lamia Bay and Radhanagar to Khudirampur. At 207 EL the Kalpong Dam will be overflow.
Presently round the clock power supply is maintained which is generated and distributed from Kalpong dam (NHPC) and the Sitanagar Power House is on standby now.
The daily requirement during normal condition is 3.2MW while during summer it increases to 3.6MW. The Street lights were kept off in whole Diglipur to save the power which has now been restored.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha the Executive Engineer Electricity Mr.Hamza requested the PRI members to utilize the street lights judiciously, which can save power, low power bills and low maintenance. Meanwhile, it is learnt that areas between, Mayabunder to Baratang are still reeling under the load-shedding.
