Port Blair, June 02: The PCC president Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has taken up the issue of non availability of ship service to Car Nicobar from Port Blair for the last more than one month with Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and requested him to take appropriate action for immediate ship service for Car Nicobar from Port Blair. In his letter Shri Kuldeep stated that the tribal people and populace of this far-flung and isolated island are fully dependent on Port Blair as their day to day requirement are regulated from Port Blair.
Furthermore the inhabitants of this island are required to visit Port Blair frequently for various official and personal purposes. Since XII Class result has been declared students and their parents of Car Nicobar are scheduled to visit Port Blair for admission in colleges at Port Blair as well as for proceeding to mainland for higher education of their children.
However, due to non availability of ship service for the last more than one month they are unable to visit Port Blair. It is also reported that the people of Car Nicobar area are facing shortage of essential commodities due to non availability of ship service from Port Blair.
The PCC President has also urged the Lt. Governor early action for re-introducing Air service between Port Blair and Car Nicobar for the benefit of the populace of Southern Group of islands.
