
Port Blair, June 2: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar today launched the Common College Admission Portal (CCAP) in the conference hall of Secretariat. The programme was attended by the Secretary Education, Joint Secretary, Higher Education, the Principal/Representative of various Colleges. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary lauded the initiative made by Higher Education to simplify the admission processes by developing a Common Admission Portal. He emphasised that while undertaking the computerization process, effort should be made on Process Engineering to weed out redundant process so that the system becomes more efficient and effective.
The Chief Secretary suggested that the student should be made aware of the portal so that they can avail the facility from the nearest Common Service Centre or through Internet. He also advised that a Help Desk be created so that the students can share their grievances which can be addressed over phone which will ensure that the students are able to submit the forms without any problems. The Secretary Education highlighted that the portal will reduce the consumption of paper substantially since the colleges will no longer print the Brochure and the Admission Form. The scrutiny of form shall also be done on electronic mode which will obviate the need of taking hardcopies.
With the launch of portal, there will be financial savings for the parents and students as they will now only have to pay the charges for filling the form (Rs 10/-), uploading the documents (Rs 5/- for Black & White and Rs 10/- for Colour) and taking the printout (Rs 5/-) per printout to the CSC and in the event the candidates are filling through internet no charges are required to be paid. As per the present practice, expenditure incurred ranged from Rs 150/- for Port Blair student to more than Rs 1000/- for Inter Island student for completing the formalities related to submission of Admission Form. The Secretary Education also stated that the portal will help to generate the data related to the preferences of the courses by the student which will help in future planning with regard to increasing the number of seats or addition of new courses.
