Kishorinagar, May 03: A mortuary that is being constructed adjacent to Primary Health Center, Kishorinagar at Diglipur is being silently opposed by the residents of Kishorinagar and medical staff.
Generally Mortuary is used for the storage of human corpses awaiting identification or removal for autopsy or disposal by burial, cremation or other method. The body may contain infections and sometimes body may be many days old. Often Mortuary is built away from hospitals so that while taking out the body by relatives other patients are not disturbed.
Due to obvious reasons in most of the Hospitals Mortuaries are constructed far away from General Wards. But at PHC Kishorinagar the Mortuary is constructed just 4 meters away from the Duty room.
Earlier the staffs had objected to this construction with the medical officer but the construction is still going on. Now they are suggesting to use this building for any other purpose and the demanding administration to build mortuary behind the hospital, where a lot of space is available.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Chief Medical Officer, Community Health Clinic Diglipur Dr Jai Biswas said that generally mortuary is built after a particular distance to any hospital and I along with the other Doctors of PHC Kishorinagar opposed this decision in the initial stage but due to lack of space it has been constructed close to the wards.
“Moreover mortuary is not generally utilized at Kishorinagar. It is used only in emergency situations. If administration allots any land in future we can shift it and use this building for any other purpose,” said Dr Jai Biswas.
