Port Blair, June 18: 108 Mountain Brigade (Amphibious) organised, Veterans and Families Day at Birchgunj Military Station on 17 Jun 12, to honour the ex servicemen (ESM) and dependent families of Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands. The day was graced by Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, NM, Chief of Staff, Andaman & Nicobar Command as the chief guest for the event. More than 140 ex servicemen attended the rally.
The rally provided an ideal platform for the ex servicemen to put forward issues for consideration and to know about various schemes and facilities provided by the government for their welfare and resettlement. An ex servicemen grievance cell was established to help veterans register their problems and project them to concerned Army and Civil Administration authorities. A medical camp and a special CSD counter was also set up for ex servicemen and families, on the occasion.
While addressing the veterans, the chief guest called ESM as the hallmark and pillars of the Armed Forces and the government and its Armed Forces men committed to their welfare and well – being. He further added that, with 2012 declared as the ‘Year of Veterans’, efforts are on to focus renewed efforts towards resettlement of ex servicemen. Towards the end, a lunch was organised by 108 Mountain Brigade, which was followed by distribution of gift hampers to all the Veterans and families.
