Port Blair, Apr, 17: A delegation of West Bengal Branch of the PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists, Novelists)– an International Organization of Letters, organized a literary get-together at Port Blair in association with local cultural organizations namely Baakprotima and Aditya Natya Academy on Sunday, the 16th April 2017 at 6.00 PM onward in the premises of Aditya Natya Academy at Middle Point, Port Blair to celebrate the Bengali New Year 1424. The function was presided over by Shri Ranjan Gupta, Vice President, PEN (WB Branch), while Shri Nishith Roychowdhury was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his presidential address, Shri Ranjan Gupta, Vice President of PEN(WB) mentioned that they reared a dream of having a cultural inter-exchange with the Port Blairian Bengalees while visiting Cellular Jail, which is considered as a pilgrimage to them. The very dream at last has come true in their lives on this particular day. The Chief Guest Shri Nishith Roychowdhury dwelt upon the important dates pertaining to the kalapani-convicts and construction of Cellular Jail vis-a-vis the revolutionary activities undertaken by the freedom-fighters of India in general and Bengal in particular. A number of members of all the three organizations presented self-composed poems, songs and poetry recital on this occasion.
Earlier, Shri Anadi Ranjan Bhattacharjee, General Secretary, Aditya Natya Academy welcomed the assemblage. Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Anadiranjan Biswas, Editor, Baakprotima & News Spotlight. The programme was coordinated by Shri Sugata Choudhuri, Executive Secretary, PEN, West Bengal Branch.
