Port Blair, March 27: The BAR Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a token of one day strike today seized their work following drastic changes in the Advocates Act.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Advocate Rakesh Pal Govind, General Secretary, BAR Association, A & N Islands said that it was the decision of the BAR Association Kolkata which has been followed here in Port Blair too.
“Amendment in the Advocates Act by the Law Commission that too without any consultation with the Advocates is the reason behind the work seized for the day,” Mr Rakesh Pal Govind said.
As per reports, the Commission had observed that unless there are compelling circumstances and the approval for a symbolic strike of one day is obtained from the Bar Council concerned, the advocates shall not resort to strike or abstention from the court work, which is the actual reason that has not being liked by the Advocates.
