Port Blair, March 22: The NSS unit of Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Aberdeen Bazar Port Blair, conducted massive cleanliness drive at Goal Ghar area and fish landing centre near off-shore road of Round Basti recently.
At the off shore area of Round Basti, the volunteers of the unit under the leadership of Programme Officer Mr. R. K. Singh along with the social workers of the concerned areas Mr. Ravi Kanda Swamy and Smti Gita, a member of the social welfare board, called upon the persons who were selling fishes near the coast, to keep the road and surrounding clean.
The boys of the unit went inside the drains and cleaned it removing the plastic bottles and other garbage. Seeing the quantum of garbage, It seemed that the drains were not been cleaned for a long time.
The Principal of the school Mr. Sarat Chandran also interacted with the people and urged them to use dustbin to throw the waste, and keep their area clean.
On the next day the boys went to the Goal Ghar junction area and conducted Swachchta Abhiyan. Bags full of garbage and plastic bottles were collected. The local people too extended their cooperation in the work. Around 12 bags of bottles were collected for disposal.
Later, on the same day the volunteers went to the Carbyn’s Cove beach and cleaned the area. The foreign tourists also cooperated the team and appreciated the efforts of the NSS wing.
