Port Blair, Mar 12: The two days training for ANMs, organized by the District Health Society of the District Administration, South Andaman under National Health Mission concluded today. The topic for today training was Family Planning Counseling on Post Partum IUCD.
Dr. S K Kathpalia (Obst & Gynae), ANIIMS, Port Blair through power point presentation, brief the trainees on Family Planning Counseling. He informed the participants that PPIUCD is the best method for spacing. He explained the various major aspects of PPIUCD. He also briefed about the best alternatives of spacing methods and highlighted as to how to initiate the counseling with the public and convince them to adopt such spacing methods by using GATHER technique. G – Greet the client respectfully, A – Ask them about their family planning needs, T – Tell them about different contraceptive options and methods, H – Help them to make decisions about choices of methods, E – Explain and demonstrate how to use the methods, R – Return/refer; schedule and carry out a return visit and follow up.
Later, Shri B. Nagendra, District Programme Manager, DHS-SA urged the participants to implement the same at community level. He assured the ANMs that in future, District Health Society will arrange such type of trainings on different topics to upkeep their knowledge on health services.
Altogether, 20 ANM/AANMs of Port Blair & Ferrargunj Tehsil attended the training.
