Car Nicobar, Mar 12: The Andaman & Nicobar Police, in its continuous endeavour to improve community policing and to better police public relations, has started an awareness programme on “NIRBHEEK”(Fighting fear fearlessly), an initiative, which connects the affected children with the law enforcement agencies within a fairly congenial environment, while promising complete secrecy of their personal information.
The first such camp was organized on 09.03.2017 at Govt. Primary School, Head quarter and a complaint box was installed in school premises.
The students were briefed about the concept of installing NIRBHEEK complaint box in which students along with female teachers and all office staff attended the session.
The main objectives was to make the girl students aware of how to protect themselves from mischievous persons and to combat eve teasers while going and returning from school or while residing at home. During the session, the provision of “POCSO Act 2012” and its execution, good touch-bad touch, pornography, and all issues related to women and child safety and many more were explained to them.
They were also told to approach women helpline desk functioning at every police station or simply dial 100 in distress situation. The lecture was delivered by SI Silpi Singha and WHC Diana of PS Car Nicobar.
The awareness programme was appreciated and responded well by the students and teacher of the school. The entire awareness programme was carried under the guidance of Inspr. Sanjay Kumar, SHO PS Car Nicobar.
