Port Blair, Mar 10: Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 14. conducted a Community Interaction Program at Corbyn’s Cove on 10 Mar 17 as part of developing social connect with coastal community and sensitizing fishermen folk. The interactions were aimed at educating and encouraging the fishermen and coastal population about safety and security issues at sea.
The event was attended by 50 local fishermen and representatives from fisheries department. A medical lecture on first aid and survival at sea was also organized.
The importance of toll free distress No.(1554), usage of Distress Alert Transmitter (DATs) and techniques for survival were demonstrated. Fishermen were sensitised that they are the first line of information for security issues at sea and also act as our , “EYES AND EARS”at sea for Indian Coast Guard. The fishermen community of Corbyn’s Cove participated with great enthusiasm, and appreciated the efforts of Indian Coast Guard for conduct of informative and educative session for their benefit.
