Port Blair, Mar 09: The First batch of nearly 200 freedom fighters were brought to these far-flung Andaman and Nicobar islands, way back on March 10, 1858 and from that day the History of Andaman and Nicobar Islands began but it seems that except a few, all of us have forgotten the value and importance of the day.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is yet to declare 10 March as Andaman Day and surprisingly there is no voice against this and the political will is clearly missing.
Many states in India celebrate its formation day but in Andaman the actual Andaman Day is always celebrated in most low key matter that too only by few selected groups.
Till couple of years back, the cultural programme at IITF New Delhi used to be considered as Andaman Day, which gave a wrong message to our new generation.
There is a need to tell them history and need to make them understand about Andaman’s past.
Hence it is important to officially declare 10 March as Andaman Day, officially and celebrate this day in a grand manner by the Administration.
