Port Blair, Mar 07: As a part of the ongoing anti-alcohol and anti-drug abuse awareness campaign among college students at Andaman College, an Inter departmental debate was organized on 6thMarch 2017.The selected themes for the debate were “Is Alcoholism a Learned behaviour?” /“Is Alcoholism a disease”. The debate was aimed at making the students of the college aware of the ill-effects of alcohol consumption.
Dr Pusphavalli, Coordinator of the program in her address said that it can be seen that today’s youth get easily addicted to alcohol. They consider alcohol as an easy escape rather than facing challenges of life. Although it is often started under peer pressure for fun but later on it is perceived as something which will help forget all bad memories and sorrows and will make their life happy. Lack of impulse control and constantly taking alcohol in order to mask physical and emotional pains are the two main causes with today’s youth leading an increased alcoholism in India.
Shyamali Singh and Melissa, BSc Psychology II Yr turned out to be the winners in the debate while Pooja Lakra and Divya,BCom(General) were declared as the runner ups.
