
Port Blair, Mar 05: MFV Periya Nayagi with 10 crew which was operating near Katchall in Southern Group of Islands, developed a technical snag on 03 Mar 17 and was in distress. At about 1815 hrs, Indian Coast Guard Operations Centre, Port Blair received information from the owner of fishing boat for assistance. On receipt of information, Indian Coast Guard promptly launched Search and Rescue operation by sailing Coast Guard Ship Kanaklata Baruafrom Kamorta for search of the boat and rendered assistance.
Indian Coast Guard Ship Kanaklata Barua located the adrift boat MFV Periya Nayagi at 2130 hrs about 25 miles west of Katchall Island. After initial assessment, it was found that the boat was adrift view engine failure. Since, the boat could not be repaired view non-availability of spares, the boat was taken under tow at 2300 hrs on 03 Mar 17 and was brought to Kamorta harbour.
Later, the boat MFV PeriyaNayagialongwith10 crew was handed over to Police Marine Force boat at 0700 hrs on 03 Mar 17 in coordination with Coast Guard Station Kamorta.
