Port Blair, Feb 06: Shri Udit Prakash Rai, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District laid foundation stones of Community Sanitary Complexes under Swachch Bharat Mission (Grameen) at Hope Town, Ferrargunj and Guptapara Gram Panchayats today. The ceremonies were attended by Shri Jagannath Sen, Executive Engineer (PRI), Shri Rajender Pal, Block Development Officer, CD Block Ferrargunj, Shri Hemson, Assistant Engineer, GP & PS, Sub -Div I, Ferrargunj, Shri P.V,Toppo, Assistant Engineer, GP & PS, Sub -Div II, Chouldari, Shri P. Madhusudan Rao, Pradhan, Hopetown Gram Panchayat, Shri Muneshwaran, Pradhan, Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat, Smti S. Appalnarsamma, Pradhan, Gupatapada Gram Panchayat, PRI members, officers of line departments and villagers of the respective Gram Panchayats.
At Hopetown Gram Panchayat, a Community Toilet Block near V. Duryodhan’s house at North Bay Ward No.3 estimated at an amount of Rs 3,02,275/- will be constructed by the Gram Panchayat. Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District directed the officials of the Gram Panchayat to complete the construction of the Toilet Block in a month’s time. He exhorted upon the villagers to utilize the facility to make their Panchayat open defecation free.
Later on while laying the foundation stone of Sanitary Complex at Ranchi Basti, Caddlegunj ward No-II under Ferrargunj Gram Pancjhayat he expressed happiness that long pending demand of the residents of an interior area has been fulfilled. The project will incur an expenditure of Rs 3,50,000/- In the function, the ladies of the area approached the DC requesting him to include their names under Prime Minister’s Awaas Yojana (PMAY). The DC directed BDO, CD Block Ferrargunj to look into the matter and take necessary steps to include the names of beneficiaries as per the parameter prescribed under the scheme.
In the function held at Guptapara Gram Panchayat a community Toilet block will also be constructed at Manglutan ward No-III under Swachch Bharat Mission at a cost of Rs 3,17,271/-. After the function in an interaction with PRI’s, the local issues were discussed and the PRI’s were assured by the DC for its immediate redressal with the consultation with the concerned department, a communication received said.
