Diglipur, Dec 27: Fish prices soaring sky high at Diglipur, leaving villagers & fish lovers disappointed. Although the Administration is trying hard to control the prices but all such efforts are going in vain due to alleged nexus between fishermen groups, it is learnt.
In last four years two meetings were conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur where the fishermen and the administration agreed on a particular pricelist for fishes.
After that rates were displayed on the huge boards at Fish bazaar of Diglipur but sadly no one followed the rates. Previously the rates were displayed over the board but now the rate board is also missing.
At present fish prices fluctuate as per the catch of the fish. But it was earlier agreed that it should not go beyond the rates displayed on the board.
Many believed that export of the local fish to Port Blair also escalates the price at Diglipur.
The people complained that in Mayabunder, Rangat, Billy Ground and Kadamtala the fish is sold as per rate board fixation but there are some middlemen sitting in the market who are not actually fishermen they just buy the fish in whole sale rate and sell them at a higher price at Diglipur and Port Blair.
Concerned officials of Administration were never found checking the prices in the market, one buyer alleged. Hope someday the Tehsildar who is supposed to be in charge of the price rise check, will find time to inspect the Fish Market of Diglipur and drive away the Middlemen.
