Port Blair, Dec 20: In order to promote cashless transactions, on 17.12.2016 an awareness programme for general merchants, shop keepers and general public was conducted at Mohanpura Market. About 45-50 persons attended the programme. On 18.12.2016, another programme was conducted at Delanipur in front of CCS Ltd. and about 50-55 persons including the general merchant, shop keepers and general public of the area were attended the programme.
During the programme, SDPO South Andaman Sh. Nishant Gupta, imparted knowledge about cashless transactions and its benefits. SHO PS Aberdeen, Insp. Mahesh Kumar and SHO PS Chatham SI Abdul Rehman were also present in the programme in their respective jurisdiction. It was urged to the shopkeepers to install POS Machines in their shops to minimize cash transactions.
The participants raised many questions during the programme. Their doubts as well as their concerns about net banking were cleared by SDPO/SA. He also requested the public to share the information about the use of mobile banking, App based Banking such as SBI Buddy, use of POS Machine, E-Wallet etc. among their friends and family members. SDPO/SA, Sh. Nishant Gupta, being an engineer by academics, gave ample emphasis on security aspect of digital payments and urged the public not to share their ATM PIN and CVV number with any unknown person.
He also advised general public to replace their “Magnetic Strip” based debit cards with “Chip” based cards, which are much more secure against skimming and cloning. SDPO, South Andaman informed the shopkeeper that certain banks are supplying POS Terminals free of cost till the end of December 2016 and requested them to avail the facility provided by the bankers.
