Port Blair, Dec 14: General Dalbir Singh, PVSM, UYSM,AVSM, VSM, ADC, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) arrived at Port Blair on a two day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command on 14 Dec 16. He was received by Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command.
After arrival at Port Blair, the Chief of Army Staff was given a Guard of Honour. Subsequently upon arrival at HQ Andaman and Nicobar Command, he first interacted with troops of all the Services. Later during briefing at HQ ANC, he was updated on the operational preparedness of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. Relevant issues pertaining to Army were also discussed during the briefing. After the visit to HQ ANC, the COAS called on Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In the afternoon, the Chief of Army Staff visited the Army Component at Brichgunj. There he had tea with Army jawans. During this interaction, Chief of Army Staff applauded the Component for their professionalism and achievement of high degree of synergy with other Components in the multi-service set up in the Andaman and Nicobar Command. He exhorted them to maintain highest standard of combat readiness and serviceability of equipment. He further stressed upon the need to keep vigil in view of the present security environment.
On 15 Dec 16, the COAS will visit Air Force Station Carnicobar. After being briefed on operational matters, the Chief of Army Staff will visit the Tsunami Memorial and pay tributes to the martyrs.
