
Port Blair, Dec 14: The 46th meeting of the General Body of Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS) was held today, at Raj Niwas under the Chairmanship of the Lt Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi. Chief Secretary, PCCF, DGP, Secretary (TW), Secretary (Edn.), Secretary (Agri), Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad (SA), Deputy Commissioner (SA), Heads of Department of the Administration and Central Government besides other expert members were present.
The Secretary (TW) explained about various schemes being implemented by Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti for the welfare and development of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in coordination with the line Departments and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration /Central Government agencies.
The plans and programme for the welfare and development of the PVTGs for the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 were discussed in detail during the meeting. The Lt. Governor impressed upon the Departments that the members of the Onges /Great Andamanese, upon their joining the Government services should contribute meaningfully for the welfare and development of their respective communities through empowerment / skill development.
Besides, the normal business of the General Body, issues relating to operationalization of alternate sea route i.e construction of jetty at Baratang and acquisition of vessels including disaster preparedness for the PVTGs, health delivery mechanism, informal education for the Jarawa were also deliberated upon.
The Lt Governor complimented the efforts made by the Society for the wellbeing of the PVTGs which is marked by the steady growth in their population.
