Port Blair, Dec 07: The Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has taken a number of initiatives recently to bring about transparency in service and to prevent pilferages/leakages. End-to End computerization and sale of PDS commodities through POS machines has already been implemented in 275 FPS in this Territory. The remaining FPS are also likely to be covered within this financial year.
Keeping this in view as well as to develop a healthy Public Distribution System and due to burdening overheads it is informed to all the Ration cardholders as well as Fair Price Shop licensee of this UT that the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has enhanced the Retail Selling Price of PDS items issued under Public Distribution System (PDS) as detailed below:- Above Poverty Line (APL) Rice – Rs. 11.20/- per kg; Above Poverty Line (APL) Wheat – Rs. 9.00/- per kg; Above Poverty Line (APL) Sugar – Rs. 22.40/- per kg; Priority House hold (PHH) Sugar -Rs. 16.30/- per kg and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Sugar – Rs. 16.30/- per kg.
There is no change in retail selling price in case of Atta for all categories and Rice & Wheat for NFSA beneficiaries.
For the month of December 2016 each cardholder will be allocated festival/additional quota of 700gms/card of sugar over and above the normal entitle.
It is pertinent to inform that the Govt. of India had discontinued levy sugar to be distributed under PDS w.e.f April 2013 with the consent given to those States/UTs willing to continue distribution of sugar under PDS to procure from open market, with the liberty to either absorb the additional cost, if any, on account of handling, transportation and dealers commission or pass it on to the consumers by including it in the Retail Issue Price.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has not discontinued supply of sugar to beneficiaries through FPS (as done by many other States/UTs) and has been procuring sugar from open market through NCDEX platform by reverse auction mode. The prices of sugar has been increased due to recent escalation of prices of sugar procured.
The new retail Selling Price shall be effective from December 2016 onwards.
