Dear Islanders
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji in a bold and historic move, has cancelled currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination from 8th November 2016. The aim is to stop transaction of black money and give the economy a definitive boost. Black money, as we know is like a black spot on the Country’s economy. This parallel economy is having a huge negative effect on the economy of the country.
To make black money generation difficult for black money generators, we all have to move towards cashless economy. For achieving this, we have to reduce the use of cash in the economy by promoting cashless payments, including e-wallets and cards.
We have always wanted the government to act against black money, which harm us all, now it is the opportunity to contribute to the process.
Post demonetization people have started to adapt to the change and are using plastic money and other cashless forms of transactions more and more. I am pleased to know even small traders and petty shop owners, including tea & vegetable vendors and rickshaw drivers are turning to plastic money. These are indicators that people are happy and ready to adopt the new way.
I appeal to the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to promote digital payments and other non-cash settlement culture in the Islands, thereby making the A&N Islands a cashless society.
