Port Blair, Dec 02: Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day on 04 Dec every year to commemorate the 1971 war victory over Pakistan. A variety of activities are organised during the Navy week every year. Activities like Naval Band concert, Ship open for visitors, Blood donation camps and assistance to the under privileged section of the society are the key events during the Navy week. As part of Navy Week 2016 activities, the Naval Component at Port Blair has conducted visits to two orphanages on 01 Dec 16. This outreach was aimed at fostering greater bond and a sense of belongingness amongst the disadvantaged sections of the society and contribute towards the greater aim of Nation building by the Indian Navy.
Personnel from Indian Naval Ship Guldar visited Nirmala Shishu Bhavan and Pranav Kanya and contributed to the orphanage in the form of rations, clothes, toys, school uniforms and gifts for children. Extensive maintenance of the orphanage buildings was also undertaken. The funds for the event were raised through voluntary contributions from Naval personnel and defence civilians at Andaman Nicobar Command.
Sanyasini Sangamithra Nandamayee, Secretary, Pranav Kanya and Sister Rose Ann, Superior, Nirmala Shishu Bhavan thanked the Indian Navy for all their efforts.
