Port Blair, Nov 28: In order to enhance the capacity towards disaster awareness, the Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration has conducted disaster awareness-cum-sensitization programme on Disaster Management & Preparedness for staff and officials of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman on 28th November, 2016.
Shri T.K.S Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops), DM visualized disasters related pictures and videos in his presentation and briefed the risk, hazards, vulnerability profile of A&N Islands, emergency communication and early warning system used by the State Emergency Operation Centre and 06 Emergency Operation Centres of this UT.
Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.), DM interacted with the staff and officials on disaster preparedness of the Zilla Parishad and stated that every department should prepare and review the Disaster Management Plan of their department regularly and constitute Task Forces in their department to tackle any disaster. Escape routes, evacuation plan, resources etc. will be clearly depicted in the office building.
Shri Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer has started with some disaster related exercises with the participants for knowing them about the disaster preparedness, awareness and do’s & don’ts which play an important role during emergencies to save the lives. He also emphasized on the need to keep disaster kit in each household which should contain important documents and other articles like torch, radio, some drinking water, biscuits etc.
