“No fund for roads” says PBMC

Port Blair, June 05: The new session of Ummat Public School, Junglighat is all set to commence from 12 June 2012 and the Port Blair Municipal Council has made all arrangement to greet the students with horribly bad approached road.
The photograph of the said road available with Andaman Sheekha shows that how difficult it would be for the school students, especially the tiny tots to reach upto the school during this ongoing rainy season.
From 12 June 2012, Class I to Class VIII or Ummat Public School will commence in its Austinabad Branch, which is connected with the Austinabad Main road via a temporary approach road. Heavy trucks frequents on the said road making things further difficult for students.
Parents complain that PBMC had once started constructing a new layer of road but the work was suddenly stopped, for reasons unknown.
When contacted the Councillor of Ward No 18, Mr. Armugam told Andaman Sheekha that the PBMC doesn’t have sufficient fund for laying new stretch of road. “We don’t have enough funds to repair existing road, how would we lay new road stretch,” he said.
However, Mr. Armugam added that earlier some work was carried out to construct the road but the work was not done as per the map and hence the work was stopped.
“It is impossible to construct road from PBMC’s fund at present. The only way out is MPLAD fund,” the Councillor gave suggestion.
