Port Blair, Nov 25: The Indian Navy observes 4th December each year as the ‘Navy Day’ to commemorate the decisive role of its ship in achieving ‘victory at sea’ during the 1971 war. This is also the day when the Navy collectively pays homage to the martyrs, and remembers the sacrifices of its veterans and war widows. This year, the Navy Day is being celebrated with its theme, ‘Indian Navy – Professional Force, Anchoring Stability Security and National Prosperity’. The Headquarters Naval
Component of the tri-services Andaman & Nicobar Command has organised a host of activities commemorating the occasion, and also to spread awareness on the important role that the Navy plays in safeguarding our maritime frontiers.
Traditionally called ‘Navy Week’ activities, these programmes actually extend much beyond a week. A ‘Navy Mela’ is being scheduled at Kamorta on 26 Nov 16 and at Campbell Bay on 29 Nov 16. On 26 Nov 16, an ESM Mela has been scheduled at Dweepika (Haddo), from 0930 h to 1500 h, for all Ex-Servicemen.
Indian Naval Ships will be open to public at Kamorta on 26 Nov 16; at Mayabunder and Campbell bay on 27 Nov 16; and at Port Blair (Hadoo Jetty) on 07 Dec 16 from 10 AM to 3 PM. A scintillating band performance is also scheduled by Navy Band at Marina Park, Port Blair on 27 Nov 16 from 5 PM to 6 PM. The Naval Marine Museum ‘Samudrika’ will be open for public on 07 Dec 16 from 10 AM to 3 PM.
