Port Blair, Nov 22: The efforts of A&N Police in developing the intelligence about the unclaimed parcel kept at the Cargo Shed of Veer Savarkar Airport since 05/11/2016, has finally ended with the seizure of 1200 Nos. Chewing Tobacco Tin weighing 90 Kgs.
The CCS & CID Unit of A&N Police was keeping a strict vigil over the consignment having address of Ashiq Rehman A S/o Saiddavi, Fasna Store, Lamba Line Ph: 9679559128 tagged to it as the consignment has not been claimed by anyone since its arrival.
Growing suspicion over the parcel, Inspr Hari Narayan, SHO CCS alongwith SI Girish Kumar and SI Abdul Nazir had been to Airport and opened the parcel looking for probable prohibited articles which were later turned out to be the prohibited tobacco products in these islands. The Food Safety Officer was informed and summoned at the spot. Taking cognizance, the contraband was seized by FSO under relevant sections of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for initiating further course of legal action.
The general public is requested to inform any credible information pertaining to sale or possession of banned tobacco products or any other illegal activity on the following telephone numbers- 100, 232586 & 233307. The identity of the informer will be kept secret.
