Car Nicobar, Nov. 22: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar visited Katchal and Karmora Islands on Nov. 21. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Smt. Neha Bansal, and Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, Shri Deepak Yadav. The Chief Secretary was received at the helipad by Shri Casper James, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie and Chairman Tribal Council, Katchal.
The Chief Secretary visited the Primary Health Centre and inspected the facilities available there. He visited Secondary School Kapanga and heard the problems of the Tamil Settlers and urged them to accept the settlement terms at the earliest to live a better and more fruitful life in Little Andaman. He also gave a patient hearing to the demands of Tribal population which includes shipping services, helicopter service, BSNL, APWD, lack of X-Ray Technician and demand to provide Mortuary van.
Thereafter the Chief Secretary visited Kamorta Island, where he was received by the Assistant Commissioner, all local heads of office, Chairperson Tribal Council Kamorta and Commanding Officer ICGS, Kamorta.
The Tribal Council put forward the demands relating to the Shipping services. The Chief Secretary informed that one chartered ship MV Coral Queen will join the fleet of the Directorate of Shipping Services before 26th January, 2017. Further, he also assured to look in to the demands relating to road from Vikas Nagar to Pillpillow, Poor BSNL service, potable water issue at Champin Island, Fish Landing centre, Sub-Centre at Balu Basti, non availability of ration supply at Anganwadi centres, Construction of community toilet blocks, limited hours of power supply at Champin Island, shortage of teachers and providing of Mortuary van etc.
Today, immediately after reaching Teressa Islands the Chief Secretary visited the Tsunami memorial, and also visited the Primary School Bengali Basti. He interacted with the tribal people in the Community Hall, and heard their problems such as shortage of sugar in ration shop, non availability of petrol, lack of staff nurse in the Primary Health Centre and poor BSNL Service. They also put forward the demand for construction of park and a mini stadium there and also requested to provide a mortuary van. The Chief Secretary assured to look into their demands.
