Port Blair, Nov 18: A mock Tsunami preparedness drill was conducted in JNRM at 1000 hrs on 18th November 2016. At the sounding of the Tsunami siren at 1000 hrs all the students and staff left the campus according to the pre-determined evacuation plan and exited through the emergency exits to reach the higher ground. The Tsunami drill was conducted without prior intimation in order to test the responsiveness of the emergency evacuation plan already in place. The students and staff responded well to the situation and the entire college was evacuated in less than 10 minutes.
JNRM has more than 3200 students with the entrance facing the sea. It was also badly affected during the Tsunami of 2004. Emergency preparedness is essential due its vulnerable location.
This is the second such Tsunami drill carried out by JNRM.
