Port Blair, Nov 16: Table Top-cum-Orientation Programme was conducted in the Auditorium of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair on 16/11/2016 by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with Directorate of Education involving all Head of Schools and their Disaster Management In-charge (Teacher) for finalization of Mock Exercise scenarios on Earthquake & Tsunami and its action plan proposed to be conducted on 18/11/2016 in all Govt. & Pvt. Schools of Port Blair and South Andaman Educational Zone.
Shri T.K.S. Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops.) DDM, highlighted about the Hazards, Risk & Vulnerability profile of this UT towards disaster preparedness and awareness in the community and schools of this Islands to tackle any eventuality.
Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.) briefed about the proposed mock exercise to be conducted on 18/11/2016 in all schools of Port Blair and South Andaman Educational Zone and highlighted its scenarios, different phases of exercise, safety measures etc. He also urged all the participants to conduct the proposed Mock Exercise on 18/11/2016 in their respective schools, observe all activities during the mock exercise as decided in the table top exercise. He further requested to submit the final report of the mock exercise to the Directorate of Education and Directorate of Disaster Management. Participants were also stressed to give wide publicity among the parents and community about the disaster and preventive measures.
Shri Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer, Directorate of Disaster Management elaborated on Emergency Communication and Early Warning System of A&N Islands and also emphasized on the need to keep disaster kit in each household which should contain important documents and other articles like torch, radio, some drinking water, biscuits etc.
The Dy. Director Education (Planning), Dy. Education Officer (S/A) and officials of Education Department were also present in this programme.
