Port Blair, Nov 11: ICAR-KrishiVigyan Kendra (CIARI), Nimbudera organized 05 days training on “Pond based integrated farming system in Island condition” sponsored by NFDB, Hyderabad for farmers of N&M Andaman at R.K.C, Nimbudera. The training was inaugurated by Smt. K. Nachiamma, Pramukh, Mayabunder, in her inaugural speech Pramukh lauded the efforts of KVK in organizing trainings on relevant topics and requested farmers to make full use of it. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) briefed about the content of 5 days training and urged the farmers and participants to adopt scientific method of fish farming for improving fish production on sustainable basis. Dr. B. L. Kasinath highlighted the importance of integrated farming system for meeting the requirement of nutritional security in India and for sustainable farming income.
Experts of KVK had explained theory and practical demonstrations on different aspects of Pond based integrated farming system. Detail aspects of fish seed production and rearing was dealt by Shri S. K. Talukder, Asst. Director (Fisheries), he also highlighted on various schemes being implemented by fisheries department. Dr. Nagesh Ram, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK, Port Blair covered topics on stocking and post stocking management in fish ponds, culture of fresh water prawns and feeding management in culture ponds. Visuals were also showed to the participants on integrated farming system, participants were also taken for exposure visits to farms of Veterinary department at sitanagar and different fields of progressive and innovative farmer in Diglipur. In the concluding function certificates were distributed to participants by the chief guest Smt. Bina Rao, Sarpanch, Basantipur. In her concluding remarks she appreciated efforts of KVK in imparting knowledge to famers and requested famers to adopt scientific technologies in their field for higher productivity. Participants expressed their satisfaction about the training programme. The training was co-ordinated by Dr. Shailesh Kumar under the guidance and supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 27 farmers were benefitted in the training programme covering Rangat and Mayabunder Tehsils.
Earlier, Shri. D. Basantia, SMS (Horticulture) welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants and Dr. B. L. Meena (Agronomy) proposed the vote of thanks.
