
Port Blair, Nov 09: Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman Shri Udit Prakash Rai visited Namunaghar Village along with Smti Preethima Kumari Ekka, Pradhan, Shri Hameed Khan, Samiti Member and other PRIs.
At the outset, the Dy. Commissioner paid a visit to the Namunaghar Junction where the Pradhan requested to set apart the land of Forest, Education & APWD to the Panchayat for construction of parking space, toilets, cultural hall, marketing complex etc.
The Dy. Commissioner assured to take up the matter with concerned departments.
Thereafter, the Dy. Commissioner inspected the old community hall at Ward No-2 , which is in a very depilated condition Namunaghar Panchayat intend to construct a new multipurpose hall rather than renovating the old hall.
Dy. Commissioner inaugurated the Anganwadi constructed by Panchayat fund at Ward No.3. it was also brought to the notice of DC that a big shed was constructed in the village through MPLAD but it was never used since its inauguration due to various court issues.
The Dy. Commissioner assured to resolve the issues so that the same can be utilized by the Panchayat.
Thereafter, DC inaugurated MGNREGA work “construction of earthen bund at Sampat Ram Land” in Namunagar. The work was estimated at about Rs. 3.4 lakh and would provide about 160 mandays of employment. The PRIs requested to approve the revised estimates for construction of rural road under MGNREGA. DC confirmed that now the District Administration is committed to take up permanent nature of works for the Panchayat like CC footpath/ road/ drain etc.
He directed PO MGNREGA and AE, MGNREGA to discuss with Pradhan and come up with different project of permanent nature. Pradhan requested for starting up the Drip Irrigation Project under MGNREGA. The Dy. Commissioner ensured to take necessary steps in this regard.
The DC also inspected the building constructed by an NGO for running the Mahila Mandal and other allied activities which was destroyed in the inclement weather. DC proposed to take up this project with Director Social Welfare for construction of Anganwadi.
DC also visited Namunaghar Dam and understood the proposed expansion of capacity of Dam through construction of filter bed and sedimentation tank. He also met ladies of Nayabasti and Ranchi Tikrey, Namunaghar and Hathitapu, who explained complained about non availability of road.
DC directed the Pradhan to take up the work in MGNREGA and complete it though convergence with Gram Panchayat fund. Besides, the above, the DC also inspected the landslide site of Shri Philip Minj and assured to provide appropriate compensation.
