Port Blair, Nov 02: The Fruit Vendors of Gandhi Market today staged a massive protest against the staffs of Port Blair Municipal Council after a team reached the Market to evacuate two fruit shops. Even a tiff between both the groups was reported from the spot.
As per reports, nearly 32 fruit vendors are operating there shops from the Gandhi market since last many years but today a team of PBMC suddenly reached the spot and asked the fruit vendors of shop number 29 and 30 to vacate their shops as they allegedly want to replace the shop to some other people.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the protesting fruit vendors alleged that they suspect underhand dealing in this entire effort to remove two fruit vendors.
“This is not the first time the PBMC staffs are troubling us, on number of occasions they come here and on unnecessary things they harass us,” said a fruit vendor.
The Fruit Vendors further said that till the matter is not sorted out completely they will not open their shops and they also demanded the intervention of the Lt Governor into this matter.
