Port Blair, Nov 02: The old and discarded quarter of Director of All India Radio is now once again buzzing with activities but this time instead of senior officers, anti-social elements are making merry inside the dilapidated quarter.
The wooden quarter, which is nothing less than a Bungalow, was discarded somewhere around 2003, when the last officer in the rank of Director/ Assistant Director left this station on transfer.
As no senior officer for programme section swas ever posted as Director of AIR Port Blair since then, no one was allotted the quarter, which slowly surrendered itself to the elements of nature.
The structure is now falling apart and it is believed that almost all the important items like fans, switchboards etc have already been stolen by anti-social elements.
Today, almost everyday one can see group of youngsters jumping the locked gate of AIR Director’s quarter, carrying liquor bottles.
Residents of the area complain that these anti-social elements create all kind of nuisance inside the campus and their presence in AIR locality is spoiling the environment.
“They often come out from the quarter under heavy influence of liquor at late evening hours, which make us feel unsafe. They virtually captures the our parking place with their bikes. The police department must carryout regular patrolling of this place and raid this place to catch them drinking and gambling in open,” said a resident.
Police Department’s concern is sought necessarily to avert any untoward anti-social elements
