Port Blair, Oct 26: As part of the celebration of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’, the Gandhi Global Family (Women), A&N Islands (Chapter) organized a week-long programme which concluded with a valedictory function at JNRM Auditorium here this evening. The First Lady of A&N Islands, Smt. Prem Mukhi was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, soon after lighting the ceremonial lamp, the First Lady congratulated the winners and participants of various competitions held during the week long programme. She said, the ‘Gandhi Global Family’ is working in coordination with the United Nation for promoting peace across the globe and Gandhiji has always advocated for peace and through non violence our country got its freedom. The First Lady also spoke about the life of Gandhiji and his practices in abstaining from alcohol; and urged the Islanders to help spread Gandhian ideology among the people of these Islands.
She said, consumption of alcohol not only harms the body but also the personality and exhorted the students to stop such social evils from plaguing the society. She remarked that the participation of students in such competitions will indeed motivate them to propagate peace and non violence and help them abstain from unhealthy habits too.
The First Lady also lauded the President GGF (W), Smti Anuradha Lall and the members for organizing such meaningful programmes for the students. She also felicitated the winners of various competitions on the occasion.
The programme began with a Ganesh Vandana by G.Monica from JNRM which was followed by classical dance by Priyanka & group and a patriotic song by Selcistica & group from JNRM, which received applause from the gathering.
The programme was also attended among others by Smti Rupa Ray, ex- SSWB Chairpersons, Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh & Smt. Ratna Kannan, prominent senior citizens, members of GGF (W), Lecturers, students from various schools & colleges in Port Blair.
Earlier, the President, GGF(W), Smt. Anuradha Lall welcomed the gathering and highlighted the aims and objectives of Gandhi Global Family (Women) A&N Islands (Chapter) which was founded by Padmashri SP Verma. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by General Secretary GGF (W), Smt. Mehwash Jadwet.
