Port Blair, Oct 21: On 21.10.2016, the A&N Police organised Police Commemoration Day as observed throughout the country. Shri Rajesh Malik, Director General of Police along with senior officers of A&N Police paid homage to the Police Martyrs who lost their lives while discharging their duties by placing the wreaths and flowers on the “Shaheed Smarak” at Parade Ground, Police Lines. This year 471 police personnel were killed on duty all over the country. The names of Police Martyrs of states police and paramilitary forces were read out by the DGP, A&N Islands to acknowledge and pay homage for the supreme sacrifice made by them.
On October 21st every year, the commemoration parade is held in all police units across India to mark the memory of police personnel who were killed in Ladakh in a faceoff with the Chinese Army and all the other Police personnel who have been killed on duty elsewhere in the service of the nation.
The Parade was witnessed by officers and men of the A&N Police including officials from Central Police Organizations and retired Police Officers, who also placed wreaths and flowers on the “Shaheed Smarak” during the function.
