Port Blair, Oct 05: As part of the ongoing Wildlife Week Celebrations, The Nature Club, Department of Zoology, JNRM in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, ANI organized a seminar on Ichthyofaunal diversity and employment opportunities in fisheries sector on 04.10.2016.
The aim of the seminar was to inculcate a sense of appreciation of the rich fish diversity of these Islands, and also to motivate the students to take up the fisheries as career avenues. The resource persons on the occasion were Dr. P.T. Rahjan from Zoological survey of India and Mr. K. Gopal represent the Fishries department.
They highlighted the importance of conservation and sustainable utilization of fish resources of these Islands which was much appreciated by the gathering. Dr. Vivek Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor in Zoology and Chairman of The Nature Club highlighted that seminars of these kind help in understanding the importance & conservation of the rich fish diversity of the region.
Earlier in her welcome address Ms. Aafreen Sayed, President of The Nature Club mentioned that ANI is a mega-diverse region and we must work together in preserving the rich biodiversity. The seminar was well attended by enthusiastic students of different departments of JNRM. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Puja Singh, secretary, The Nature Club.
