Port Blair, Oct 4: As part of Govt of India initiative to promote environment friendly transportation and the Lt. Governor’s vision plan, Andaman & Nicobar Police has taken the initiative to facilitate tourists to promote green energy so as to maintain ecological health of these beautiful Islands. The A&N Police is encouraging tourists and islanders to use bicycle as mode of transport in selected places free of cost. ‘Eco Ride’ initiative aims at facilitating tourists by enabling them to tour the tourist spots in Port Blair area on bicycle. This is a part of green initiative taken by A & N Police to keep the islands pollution free. Under this initiative, bicycles would be allotted to tourists free of cost from a fixed counter located at Marina Park. After enjoying the “Eco Ride” tourist will have to deposit the bicycle at the same counter. The counter will be manned by Traffic Police personnel
Besides, Tourist Police would patrol certain areas by bicycle which are frequented by tourists such as Marina,
Corbyn Cove in a more eco-friendly manner. This move will also ensure the safety of tourists. This fleet of bicycle will help in augmenting the existing resources of local Police for ensuring the safety & security of tourists during beat patrol. These initiatives under the guidance of Lt. Governor and Director General of Police would endeavour A & N Police to promote carbon free transportation and would help to reduce carbon footprint in the islands
