Port Blair, Sept 21: The Director, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Dr. S. Dam Roy inaugurated a state of the art fish feed mill at the Marine Research Laboratory on Wednesday. In his address, Dr Roy appreciated the initiative taken by the Fisheries Science Division of ICAR-CIARI for establishing fish feed mill which will augment the aquaculture growth of the Islands. He emphasized to train selected progressive fish farmers to establish their own small scale feed mill.
Dr. Nagesh Ram, Head, KVK, South Andaman pointed out that the establishment of feed mill will create a positive impact on the fisheries sector in the Islands. Dr. Jai Sunder, Principal Scientist mentioned about the utilization of locally available ingredients to reduce the feed cost. Earlier, Dr. T. Sivaramakrishnan, Scientist briefed about the infrastructure of feed mill and its application and further added that the existing infrastructure having capacity to produce 20 kg of feed per hour. A training programme on “Feed Based Aquaculture in Island Ecosystem” was also inaugurated for the benefit of the stakeholders wherein the farmers will get hands-on training on fish feed production. Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, In-charge, Fisheries Science Division proposed the vote of thanks.
