Port Blair, Sept 21: The Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mr. Atmaram Despande, IPS, had convened meeting with Bus Owners Association on 21.09.2016.
In the meeting, SP (Traffic) has highlighted the duties and responsibilities of the traffic Police and informed the members of the associations that Traffic Police will start an intensive drive on Drunken driving against the Bus driver and other vehicle drivers & two wheeler riders in which the intension of the traffic policing is not to harass, but to uphold the traffic rules and regulations for the safety and security of the public/passengers.
Some important instructions/suggestions were given to the members of association viz Drivers should not indulge in drunken and dangerous driving; Long distance buses should have two drivers at least to drive the vehicle to avoid driver fatigue which leads to accident, Bus drivers were urged ensure the safety of the passengers of bus and not to over speed in forest areas to make up time lost to make it to convoy timings and to reach the vehicle ferry; Traffic rules and regulations should strictly be followed by the drivers to ensure safety of the passenger.
All drivers/riders are therefore cautioned to refrain themselves from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The drive of Traffic Police on drunken driving will continue in future also.
