Mayabunder, Sept 19: Wishing ‘good night’ is something parents teach their kids as good manners and make sure they do so every night.
However, those trying it in recent days at Mayabunder are likely to get only cold stares from their kids, owing to the incessant night power cuts that have hit Mayabunder hard and totally disrupted the sleeping habits of its residents.
Residents allege that the power supply has totally gone out of control with no predictable pattern to the power cuts.
Families having small kids, aged and elderly people have more harrowing times.
Further, the long power cut that took place from 18th Sept mid-night till this evening made the whole day of the residents terrible.
“I feel tired and irritated all day because of the night power cuts,” fumes a resident of Mayabunder.
“During the entire night, I have to fan my kids with papers and other stuff during the night power cuts as otherwise they find it difficult to sleep. This leaves me completely sleepless, which, in turn, makes me tired the next day and leaves me prone to irritation,” He said.
As not everyone could afford inverters, the least power authorities could do so, he said, was at least they schedule the power cuts to fixed hours even if they have increased duration.
Today later afternoon again there was another power cut at Mayabunder, which was because of an accident in which a pick up van hit an electric pole. The reasons are many but sadly the Electricity Unit of Mayabunder area is not efficient enough to manage the show professionally.
Top officials of Electricity Department as usual were unwilling to talk to media.
