Port Blair, Sept 9: An awareness campaign on door to door collection and segregation of waste at source was conducted at Ward no. 18 on Friday. The Chairperson, PBMC, Smti. Sheela Singh, Ward Councillor, Smti. Rubana Aziz, Sanitary Officer, Mr Vijay Prasad Tiwari, Concerned Sanitary Inspector, Mr Sudeep Singh; SAT team headed by Sr. Sanitary Inspector, Mr Vijay Kumar, Angan Wadi Workers participated in the campaign and generated awareness among the ward residents, shop keepers and other stakeholders.
In her address, Smt Sheela Singh and Ward Councillor, Smt. Rubana Aziz urged the residents to deliver segregated waste hereafter to the lane Sanitary Worker to achieve better hygiene in their surrounding and to enable better Solid waste management in the city. The public response was very positive and encouraging Sanitary Workers are provided with tools and personal Protective equipments.
Mr Vijay Kumar Sr. Sanitary Inspector gave a demonstration on identification and the segregation of waste at source level. He also briefed about the different categories of waste and its importance as resource in source segregation and also stressed on the management of waste at the markets and household level.
