Port Blair, Sept 6: The Science wing of Directorate of Education, Port Blair has organized state level science seminar 2016 for the students of class VIII to X in collaboration with BITM Kolkata on the theme “Pulses for sustainable food security–Prospects and Challenges on 2nd September 2016 at 9.30 AM in the conference hall of Shiksha Sadan Port Blair. About 12 students selected from different educational zones of these islands participated in the seminar.
Dr. A.K. Singh Sr. Scientist was the chief guest of the inaugural function, while the valedictory function was inaugurated by Mr V.T. Reddy, DDE(Plg). Mr Mammen Thomas DDE(Science) welcomed the gathering. The programme was coordinated and vote of thanks was proposed by Smt Mariam Joy, Science Consultant.
Dr. Santosh Kr. Jha Asst. Professor, JNRM, Port Blair, Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Scientist-B BSI, Port Blair and Dr. I. Jaishankar, Scientist, CIARI, Port Blair witnessed the seminar as jury members.
Kumari Shreya S. Nair, Class X of Carmel SSS, Port Blair bagged the first position and will be representing our Isles at the National Level Seminar to be held at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on 4th October 2016. Second prize was clinched by Kumari Shibani Mondal class IX VKZPV, Diglipur and third prize was taken away by Kumari Shaheen Bibi of class X Crescent Public School, Wimberlygunj. The prizes were given away by the chief guest.
