Port Blair, September 04: A mass protest triggered yesterday afternoon, after a team of Revenue Officials demolished a three decade old religious structure situated at Shore Point, Bambooflat.
As per revenue official the religious structure was at Encroached land while the devotees questioned why the religious structure was targeted after nearly 30 years, hurting the sentiment of people.
As per reports, yesterday afternoon a team of Revenue Officials without any intimation to the committee or PRI members reached the spot and with the help of an excavator entered inside the Campus and demolished the newly constructed structure of the religious structure.
Fuming people shouted slogans against the revenue officials and demanded immediate action against the revenue officials and also demanded 10 lakh rupees as compensation from the Revenue Department for demolishing the religious structure.
Several top leaders of the Bharthiya Janta Party also reached the spot to support the protest.
As per the protestors, after two to three hour long protest yesterday the State Divisional Magistrate, Additional Divisional Magistrate reached the spot and assured the people that as enquiry will be conducted in this issue and if found guilty action will be initiated against revenue officials but even after repeated attempt the SDM or the ADM were not available to verify what assurances were officially announced by District Administration.
