Port Blair, Aug 17:The President, INTUC, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma and President, State Transport Employees Union called on the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration on Wednesday and discussed various demands of the employees of State Transport Department. Major among them included regularization of services of employees appointed on contract basis/Daily Rated basis and continuing as such for years together in the department, deduction of EPF from all the employees and to allow them to continue to avail all financial benefits from the date of their engagement/ appointment, immediate renovation/repair of ATR staff quarters situated at Kadamatala, Rangat, Nimbudera & Mayabunder since these quarters are in a very dilapidated condition and not fit for human habitation, immediate transfer of all contract/DRM employees to Port Blair who were transferred / posted to outstations and continuing there even after completion of their tenure and restoration of the old practice of halting the buses at Chidiyatapu, Wandoor, Tirur villages after its last trip from Port Blair Bus terminus daily so that the general public can avail the buses on its return journey on the next day early morning to Port Blair Bus Terminus. Further in case of any emergency during night these buses can be utilized by the residents of these villagers. The INTUC president urged the Chief Secretary to initiate appropriate early action to address the demands of the STS employees.
