Port Blair, Aug 08: A meeting was held on 5th August 2016 at BSNL, Head Quarter in the Chamber of Mr. Anupam Srivastava, CMD, BSNL with Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament in presence of Director, BSNL, Mr. P.K.Pandey, Principal General Manager (Radio) BSNL, Corporate office, New Delhi to review the telecom Projects in A & N Islands.
The Hon’ble MP demanded a coordinating officer from BSNL Head Quarters exclusively to monitor the timely implementation of telecom projects. He expressed his displeasure on deficiency of land line, mobile services and Internet services in A & N Islands.
On spot CMD of BSNL entrusted Mr. P.K.Pandey Principal General Manager for coordinating between MP office and CGM for timely implementation of the Projects undertaken by BSNL.
The CMD informed that the projects being undertaken by BSNL in A & N Islands are Augmentation of satellite bandwidth in A & N Islands (USOF funded project); Augmentation of Inter Island OFC Network in A & N Islands (USOF Funded Project); Submarine cable connectivity from Chennai to Port Blair and for other Islands in ANI; 2G GSM coverage for uncovered villages; Augmentation of GSM Network and NOFN Project- 69 GPs are to be connected under NOFN Projects. Total OFC to be laid: 66kms. Tenders could not be materialised due to high rates. Fresh tenders are yet to be floated.
Further, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament requested CMD to visit Andaman & Nicobar Islands as soon as possible so that the projects are implemented as faster pace.
