Port Blair, July 29: The Andaman and Nicobar Command has been conducting outreach programs for the local population in distant islands regularly, under the guidance of Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, A & N Command. A multi-specialty Medical Camp and Health Awareness Drive was conducted at CHC Kamorta on Wednesday. The medical team comprised of an ENT specialist and a Dental Officer from INHS Dhanvantari, a Dermatologist from INHS Asvini and Officer Commanding Station Health Organisation Port Blair. In addition, two general physicians were also present.
The medical outreach program included three events in Kamorta Island on Wednesday viz. Multi-Specialty counselling at CHC Kamorta, a medical camp at Kakana village and a lecture on “Adolescent Health”. Altogether, 153 patients received medical advice in the camp and 71 children attended the lecture which was appreciated by the local population. Focus on health of school children is also retained.
On Thursday, the medical team proceeded to Campbell Bay where the Medical Camp was conducted at PHC Campbell Bay. Altogether, 180 patients benefitted from the camp. Air Commodore RS Upadhyay, who recently took over as Chief Staff Officer (Medical), Andaman and Nicobar Command, mentioned that given the enthusiastic response of the local population, regular programs would continue to be conducted in the future for the benefit of the local and tribal population. He also appreciated the assistance from the local administration in making the camp a success.
